Love all of the Secret books

I downloaded the Secret series after reading reviews on Amazon. I am an adult over 30 years old and love books such as Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Kane Chronicles. I was looking for a similar series to read on a vacation for mindless fun and fantasy. The secret series is amazing, I could not put the books down and read all of them within a few days. They are funny, the characters are absolutely adorable, and since the writer is writing for children, you can overlook things that you normally would not for adult books. The books had their fun moments and I love how the friendship between the three lead characters develops, the books are also a good role model because they follow a similar thought as Percy Jackson series that "different" does not mean "bad", take that all the "mean girls" and "bullies" at school.
When I have children, this is on their reading list. Highly recommend for kids and adults like me who like such books.

If you are reading this review right this moment, for whatever reason you may have for doing so, then you are in luck; for today, the day I have finished reading this book, I have PLENTY of information to build you to your final decisions for, well... whatever reasons you are looking at purchasing this wonderful work of writing. To begin, let's start with the negatives of this book, because the list is short, as in, one thing on the list: It is sad when you get finished with this book because it is so, for lack of a better word, good, that you don't want it to end! The development of the characters is superb and the plot line has patterns in itself as it unveils the patterns of the mystery. Be careful though, you might be surprised as the events in this book twist and turn. Yes, with a stolen mummy, museum work, and an incredible trip this is a strange piece of literature. Though however strange it may be, between the excellence of the writing itself, the hilarious humor and personality, and the suspense... I couldn't put the book down. You are defiantly missing out if you don't read this book. As the biggest fan of Pseudonymous Bosch, I say GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great book!!!

I love the main characters and their unique differences compared to other people in this great series all leading up to The Secret! Everything was great and nicely suspenseful except the ending. Why PB did you not tell us about the later paths of life the children took in the future in the epilogue?!?!?!?! I wish there was another book in the series but come to think of it if there was another book about these intriguing characters this serie would just not make sense.
Anyway it's is a good book for people who don't mind some scary scenes or genres and for very adventurous people. :)

The White elephant finally addressed

Hollywood has been untouched for quite some time in terms of its portrayals of people of color. It is time to finally address the white elephant in the room - RACE. And You Mean There's Race in My Movie? does just that. Race has either been either exaggerated to trite stereotypical images or ignored all together in Hollywood movies. Those few movies that claim to deal with race only perpetuate the images that society has long been bombarded with. I found myself constantly agreeing with the author's analysis on mainstream movies portrayal of the marginalized minority characters. The author has succinctly voiced what I have long thought to be true. It is the keen observation and articulation of the numerous observations that are valuable. The book is well organized and offers archetypes for the redundant images that people of color are compacted to play. Further, the trivia facts are quite amusing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to challenge the same-ol' portrayals or those that dare to defend the portrayals of people of color in mainstream Hollywood movies.

I would bet that many of us, while watching a movie, have this sinking feeling each time a character of color comes on the screen. It's not the actor we dread, rather it's the sense that we'd better get ready for yet another rendition of a stereotype. Why are movies one of the last bastions of these ridiculous stereotypes?

What I liked about "You Mean, There's Race in My Movie," is how it illuminates the archetypes with an intense amount of analysis. All with a wicked wit, making this a reference material worth the read regardless of the purpose.

This is easily my favourite cook book to date. Easy to follow, beautifully written, honest recipes that everyone will love. Tobie and Georgia have done an absolutely brilliant job- a definite must for anyone looking for some fresh ideas in the kitchen.

An insightful documentary.

Chris Heath accompanied British duo Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant on an American music tour and this is a candid account which gives the reader a pretty good idea of how these two guys think. One reason the book is so interesting is because its characters are interesting --- authority-defiant, arrogant, neurotic (Lowe), stubborn, witty, tired, always-aiming-for-the-illogical and bloody bloody good at their work. The other reason is that... actually there isn't another reason, but the first one is good enough.
Mixed in among the hellfire of conversation (reported verbatim by the author) there are some profound statements, like Tennant remarking that while nightclub dancing of yesteryear used to be more of a courtship ritual than anything else, today it's simply an avenue to get out of your mind for a while, something very individualistic.
Another time the Boys were asked if they thought handing out condoms at school promoted sex. They replied that they didn't think sex needed much promotion. "You should try it sometime, kids." Now how many entertainment icons would say that? Most are too image-conscious to say what they think. These guys aren't. They're real life. Their message, very contrary to most other songwriters, is "Everything's not going to be alright."
The photos are very good. I wish there could have been more clips of the shows themselves, for they are quite a spectacle.
On the literary side, the author should have given the book another read, because he repeats things in places.

A brave and authentic report of two remarkable artists

When in 1991 the Pet Shop Boys toured for the first time in America, they were closely scrutinised by writer Chris Heath and photographer Pennie Smith. The result is this book, or to put it more correctly: this tour report.
Much can be said about the format: a transcription of a few conversations the boys had during their eventful American tour. At first you may fear to get bored by this format, but strangely enough it's quite the opposite. Because nothing is really interpreted by the author, it gets a very authentic feel to it. The quite remarkable -not always generally accepted- opinions of Chris and Neil are left untouched, and ready to be put into perspective by the reader himself. That in itself proves the courage of the `boys' to allow such a report to be published. I can imagine that people tend to get a bad opinion -to put it mildly- about the egos of both artists, because what is in this book is not all nice and happy. But if you allow yourself to look behind this curtain of the two personalities, you can only appreciate the dedication they produce for their `art'. Not many artists are prepared to put their image at risk in favour of authenticity.
The black-and-white pictures shot by Pennie Smith are completely in line with the works of the Pet Shop Boys. Sombre settings dictate most of the pictures, but at the same time illustrate the feeling of detachment the `boys' suffer while travelling through that strange, but fascinating land: America.
To conclude: a warning! Although this book is a must-read for everybody who likes (or dislikes) to be referred to as a `Pet Shop Boys-fan', it might not have the same effect on people who only `like' what the Pet Shop Boys create. This book is a bit too `fan-focussed' to be appreciated by a broader audience, to my humble opinion. As some kind of a footnote: I belong to the first category.

A Mission Near the Limits of Mankind's Technology

I recommend the book. It is an exhaustive (that's good) detailing of the Phoenix Mar Mission. It is also, at time, exhausting in its minutiae. Overall, it is worth the read. Few people understand how near the edge of failure space missions are. This becomes clear in Andrew Kessler's book. I worked in the aerospace industry myself (Apollo Telescope Mount ultraviolet spectroheliograph telescope on Skylab) and didn't realize how near the edge we were, though the company I worked for lost two employees, killed in the accidental ignition of a solid fuel rocket when mounting an Orbital Solar Observatory atop a rocket. Though unmanned, the Phoenix Mars Mission still had its share of frayed nerves awaiting results and dreading the possibility that things could go wrong.

Engaging, candid, honest, hilarious - get intimate with a NASA mission

Andrew Kessler is a writer who spent ninety days with the team of engineers and scientists who managed NASA's Phoenix mission - a mission which sent a lander to the Martian icecap, discovered water ice and perchlorate, and sent back beautiful panoramas of the stark, stormswept landscape. His account is candid, honest, and detailed - and hilarious - and offers a rare glimpse of an actual interplanetary exploration mission.

In it's journal-like style, the reader sees the mission through his eyes and gains a thorough picture of both the engineering challenges and triumphs as well as the relationships between team members, the interaction between the Phoenix team and their superiors at NASA headquarters, and their constant battle to engage the public somehow while resisting the media's thirst for sensational stories, while Kessler's quirky personality keeps the narrative fresh and engaging. A rare book.

The Fly-on-the-Wall Perspective of a NASA Mission

It's great to read a book about space geekery and missions to Mars that isn't being written by an engineer, but rather a writer that thinks space is interesting. You get a chance to follow Kessler as he infiltrates the NASA Phoenix mission that almost never occurred (they refurbished a formerly-trashed Mars lander to make it work on the cheap). You feel like you're right there with him, coming into the secretive techno-world of mission control, not sure what you're trying to write and just hoping that you won't get kicked out your first day on the job.

He eventually reveals both the amazing scheduling and discovery involved in commanding a Mars mission taking place 100 million miles away and some of the challenges the team faces when dealing with NASA politics and tough mission choices. The day-by-day play-by-play can become a bit tiresome, but this is definitely an interesting book to read for the space enthusiast or the budding Mars researcher.

A wonderful read!

My husband loved every page in this book, he was intrigued how it moved so smoothly between ancient Mayan History through 300 centuries to modern day investigations to locate a lost treasured relic. There is adventure, evil, history, and humor throughout, he can't wait for the sequel to be published, he was left "snake intrigued"!

Compelling case to leave Islam and its mentally-disturbed prophet

Using Islam's own sacred texts and history, Sujit Das paints a detailed picture of a self-appointed prophet who concocted a religion to justify his greed, disdain for women who he equated with domestic animals, and his narcissistic paranoia against his many imaginary enemies. So fragile was his religious construct that Muhammad had to continually rewrite the script, introducing the whole concept of abrogation. Not only did the prophet leave behind a half-built institution with no leadership structure, but the surviving Muslims fought for years to escape from the grip of the cult. So strong is the paranoia that Muslims even wage civil wars against fellow Muslims over the slightest differences in belief and practice, following Muhammad's own paranoiac destruction of the "mosque of dissent" (Surah 9:107) Today's Muslims have absorbed Muhammad's narcissistic lust for power and domination through the sacred works, creating a world inhabited by little Muhammad's driven to carry on his evil mission. Concludes Mr. Das, "A poisonous tree produces poisonous fruits."

It would be hard to imagine that a thinking Muslim could read this comprehensive analysis of the origins and manifestation of Islam without having a strong desire to leave Islam and everything associated with it. This book is not a "anti-Muslim hate book," but rather a well-developed case to strengthen the Muslims' resolve to leave Islam.

Sujit Das Dismantles Islam & Stomps on its Pieces

Sujit Das has written an amazing work. This book puts the Quran, the life of Muhammad, & various hadiths under a microscope and presents argument after argument (armed with reason, facts, and logic); completely dismantling the legitimacy and prophetic claims of Islam.

Furthermore I have never read a more apt psychological analysis of why Muhammad did all the horrible things he did. In chapter 3, Sujit Das explains how Muhammad's erratic actions & words make sense when attributed to the condition of malignant narcissism.

Although this book is a worthy read, there are grammatical errors on almost every page and this is certainly distracting. Furthermore, this is a very comprehensive work and sometimes a very long read (and that's certainly not an entirely bad thing).

All in all, this is a great work. If one wants to further understand the psychosis of Arabia's most famous prophet, then this book is definitely worth your time.
