much is missing

There are a few foundational books I want to recommend first regarding the history of performance/literary theater: Towards a Poor Theatre (Theatre Arts (Routledge Paperback))primarily Grotowski, linked here. In an age of excess and spectacle Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle as described by Hedges in the book I linked, we have lost all sense of humanity along with common sense. Look at the extreme greed of global capitalists and the debates from "conservative" Republicans in the U.S. running for president where Christian values take a backseat to politicized religious ideology. "Humanity suffers when The Many suffer for the wealth of a elite few." I'm quoting poet Hedwig Gorski whose book linked here documents Intoxication: Heathcliff on Powell Street how they put Grotowski's Poor Theater into practice in the 1970s in a skewed way, maybe a sloppy American way compared to the long traditions of Polish theatre. The results were fascinating, to say the least. It is fitting that this book is still available and in print. For those less interested in theory, you might be interested in knowing what the actors in the film My Dinner with Andre linked here My Dinner with Andre were discussing: Grotowski theatre exercises, theory, and practice. Years ago, I had the privilege of seeing a Grotowski trained actor from South America do a solo performance, and my life was changed forever. I highly recommend Grotowski essential book as a foundation for all the individual theater movements, including slam/hip hop of today, and the two books and DVD I linked here as essential for anyone interested in the real history of American poetry in performance and the spoken word movement including slam.

Getting Unstuck

Staying stuck in anger can become such a habit, we don't realize how stuck we really are. But staying stuck in anger prevents us from living full and productive lives. F. Remy Diederich's second book is more than a self-help manual. Remy uses biblical principles (without getting "preachy") to help the reader recognize accumulated anger and start the process of healing and restoration. This book reads better than Remy's first book, "Healing the Hurts of Your Past" - in part because it is better organized, but also because Remy's writing style is clearer and more focused. The first half of the book helps the reader identify ways we get stuck in our anger, and the second half moves the reader through a series of steps to start getting un-stuck. Throughout the book, Remy offers journaling pauses to encourage the reader to write down responses to specific questions. Like any good program of self-awareness and transformation, you will get out of it what you put into it. Commit to the process, and join Remy on the journey toward health and wholeness.

THOUGHT PROVOKING.....

Stuck: How to Mend and Move on From Broken Relationships

First off I want to say this is a book I would highly recommend and already have recommended to friends of multiple religious and non-religious beliefs. It's "peppered" with scripture, not overwhelming.

I have to say the beginning information explaining how to read the book seemed a bit drawn out to me, but once I got through it and into the regular chapters it really started flowing and hitting home.

I was initially interested in reading this book because I had recently felt my life as "Stuck". Having multiple health issues, bad choices in the opposite sex, feeling a failure as a single parent and being told I have multiple heart conditions and not knowing how much time God will be giving me. I was stuck which way to turn, what to do, re-evaluating almost 50 years of not quite living up to others expectations and wondering had I really honored God in my life, had I really done the best I knew how at the time for my kids? So I was excited to see where this book would take me.

In chapter 3 where Remy explains about the Look of Anger "rage, violence, swearing,silence", yep been there done that. Then in chapter 4 explaining how to "Understand Anger". The "perceived injustice, Emotional Response, Actions Taken."
I know all parents out there will relate to this. I wish I had this wisdom when my children were small. But it also fits ALL adults, I won't give away more of the book, you must read it to gain value from it and don't worry Remy doesn't just explain the bad he also helps you learn and grow from it and become un-Stuck in your life.

I like the way it is written so that 10 people from various walks of life can read it and come out with 10 different ways on how its just perfect for them. I feel it is a book for anyone not just people in a certain walk of life. It is a easy read and re-read. You can skim through it and then be hooked and read through it slowly and really answer the provoking questions. It's just right for anyone wither you believe in God or not. I feel Remy wrote this for the masses no matter your beliefs or struggles.

This is a definite read for everyone. Give it a try.

Awesome book! A MUST READ !

When I became aware the STUCK was getting published and what exactly the topic to be covered; I knew that this would be my next book of Remy Diederich's that I would own. His words in the pages of Healing the Hurts of Your Past spoke to me as if they were intended for only me. STUCK has caught my attention from the beginning cover and kept me glued to the end.
Anger is one of the short-comings that I have struggled thru for many years. This resource has allowed me to realize that I may not be the only person on earth that struggles with those people who think differently than I do.
I have and will continue to encourage anyone who has struggles with relationship connections to read this book. Awesome read!

About the Author
Magdalena Droste studied art history and literature in Aachen and Marburg. She has worked at the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin since 1980 and is professor of art history at the BTU Cottbus since 1997. Droste has contributed to numerous exhibitions and publications on Bauhaus artists, besides writing a number of essays on the furniture and textile workshops at the Bauhaus and on arts and crafts as a women’s profession.

Strong characters, good plot twists

I've read all of Shreve's novels and this one is near the top of my list. The heroine, Etna, is a powerful figure, but in the tradition of the period in which Shreve writes, Etna must keep her power undercover and hidden from her husband, a boorish professor at a local New England college.
The source of Etna's power -- perhaps the very power itself -- is her ability to hold a part of herself back from her husband and family. She keeps secrets, both of fact and of feeling, so that her integrity as a person can't be breached by a husband who feels entitled to know and own her totally. I identified deeply with Etna's need to do this, as I believe many women will who have been married to men who at first seemed innocuous but after a few years of marriage are revealed to be unbearably possessive. In self defense, Etna must keep her true self contained and hidden from her husband's impulse toward emotional rape.
While that may sound a bit strong, it seems very legitimate to me. I found the fact that Etna creates a personal studio space for herself -- and keeps it secret from her husband -- a natural response to his overwhelming intrusiveness. It's a testament to Shreve's ability to finely draw her characters that a reader such as myself can so thoroughly identify with the heroine's emotions, as well as feel stifled by a fictional character such as the husband.
Overall, this is a very good novel with enough depth and action to entertain readers without being shallow.

selfish love

I listened to All He Ever Wanted unabridged on audiocassette. It is wonderfully read and kept me entranced for days. I think the book would be a hard plow despite the great issues and concept unearthed by Shreve.

The book is classic Anita Sherve and really makes one think about love and relationships. After reading/listening to several of Shreve's novels, I can't help but think she has first-hand knowledge of affairs, lost love, passionate indiscretion, and unattainable relationship expectations.

If we were all to strive for the prefect marital union of unending sexual attraction, full compatibility and satisfaction-everyone would be divorced, or would be searching until 45 for the perfect mate. I'm sure it can be had, but some of it is a matter of location and logistics. The mantra of "I just want to be happy" is childish. For married couples with children, the responsibility is greater than one's own fulfillment. In none of Sherve's novels does this comes to fore. Children are left in the wake, though she does address some of the damage of such decisions in this novel.

I understand the emotions played in the novel. It is a great book and had me thinking for days. I'd love to talk more about the plot and the sad lead characters, but do not wish to spoil it for the readers. If anyone would like to chat about this novel, I can be reached at miklos@knology.net.
