My Daughter was Thrilled to receive this book!

I bought this for my Adult daughter who is a huge Miss. Peregrine's book series lover!
She's a huge Tim Burton fan as well and as soon as she found out about this new Hardcover book chronicles every step in the making of the film—from script development and casting to concept art, set design, costumes, visual effects, etc...She messaged me the link and said She NEEDED this book!!
Little did she know, I went right online and ordered it, so this morning when UPS came she was shocked when she opened the box!
Filled with exclusive interviews, on-set photography, and special introductions by Tim Burton and Ransom Riggs, this deluxe hardcover volume is a terrific gift for peculiars of all ages!
I have also read the Miss.Peregrine's book series and we both are really looking forward to the movie coming out in the next month or so.
The book is well written and illustrated. She's a Hardcover only girl, so she's in love!

An incredible array of photographs and accompanying text. Thoughtfully curated and meticulously detailed. A must have for any Burton collector, photo fiend, and movie buff. It's a richly colorful, beautifully printed and bound book, at home on any coffee table or private collection.

I absolutely love whole series of The Witcher

I absolutely love whole series of The Witcher. Very interesting plot, full of surprises, Geralt is the best. You have to read it. I suggest to read it in order to be able to understand everything!
1. The Last Wish

3. Blood of elves
4. Time of contempt
5. Baptism of fire
6. Tower of Swallows ( will be available in English in May 2016)
7. Lady of the lake (probably will be available in English in 2017)

THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE WITCHER!!!

This is the fourth Witcher book that I've read and I must say that I'm very pleased with the series thus far. I was put on to the world of the Witcher from the video games and I have been obsessed with Geralt of Rivia ever since.
The world is so diverse and the mystical creatures remind me of the Elder Scrolls games with vampires and werewolves and such. But Geralt is not the typical hero and as you'll learn in this book, not every monster is evil.
I have never seen fantasy done as good as this. The political situations and scandals are expertly crafted and it seems that every character has their own secret that will be revealed sooner or later. And I really enjoy reading fantasy for adults. I'm so tired of the goodie goodie farmers son becoming a magic Prince and saving the day. This story is about a grimy ass Witcher who will cut your ass down and sleep with a gang of whores two minutes later.
I highly recommend this book and even though the previous book "TIME OF CONTEMPT" was far from my favorite, I believe this book makes up for that one. And the others are all great as well. I'd say "LAST WISH" is my favorite, but it's more of a collection of short stories than part of the series.
Anyways, the books great and fairly quick to read so go buy it and if you haven't read the other then buy them too and read one of the best fantasy series created!

Surging with character, political deviance and magical shenanigans

Simply delightful, though I dare say it was a painful wait for it! I should also add that it might be my favorite of the English translated Witcher novels so far—a beautiful blend of character, political deviance, and magical shenanigans (which is my way of saying action of many kinds). Though the forward progress can drag its heels a bit at times, feeling as though the wheels are turning (and, admittedly, a lot being learned) without actually progressing, there is not a single of these moments that will linger too long on the conscious mind of the reader. Neither Geralt, nor those around him, ever sit in one place long enough for that to be the case.

The sorceresses are the primary force for political momentum herein, though Nilfgaard and its naughty streak remain at the edge of every action and reaction. It dwells heavily on the symbol of the Baptism of Fire—a journey a great many of the characters seems to be walking here, above and beyond merely Geralt of Rivia. A new friend herein, one whom you can’t take but take quickly to, a Mr. Regis, is quick enough to point that little detail out.

Sapkowski has this delightful gift for balancing the dark grit and clever wit together atop the pin needle of high fantasy that is difficult to be equaled. Elves, Dwarves, and magic abound—yet somehow you cannot read his books without using the word “human” significantly. The interactions, the personality he breathes into his creations—it’s at the same time both complex and yet soothingly natural.

One must always worry when a translation is set before them—worry that something will be lost in the translation, that something of the beauty of the work will not hold up to the editor’s keen axe. Not so, here. If the book has lost anything in the translation, yet remains of such rich delight, then the original must be truly breathtaking. Sapkowski is a storyteller I would highly recommend—and Baptism of Fire is another notch on that belt.

Seriously nothing more than a few barely explained examples.

I gave it two stars instead of one, because at least they warn you in the title. But still, if you are going to claim to teach someone something by examples, you might want to actually explain how the examples actually work. Instead, the authors present the example and then describe the final result of the example, but with little explanation as to how the example actually works. No explanation as to why a particular approach was taken. There are little or no comments in the code, so you could have done just as well downloading some sample code and digging through it yourself.

Honestly, I just think someone is cashing in on the fact that they had early access to JavaFX and is just throwing out anything and calling it a book.

I love to learn from examples

When it comes to programming, I love to learn from examples, so I though this text would be ideal for me. Unfortunately, examples not beta tested and are mostly incomplete. There is a website where you can download the examples in the book and I highly recommend the reader do so; the code in the text does not match the downloadable versions, and after the first couple examples, the text version fails to provide any information about what classes you will need to import. And, while that information is available in the downloads, on occasion that code does not execute as described in the text. Finally, explanations behind the code are extraordinarily terse and do not adequately describe what is occurring within the program.

Honestly, I do not know why potential readers should bother with the text; by itself it is practically worthless and to have any success you must download the non-abridged example programs. The text feels as if the author and publisher were in a huge hurry and failed to even perform an even rudimentary review of the material for functionality, completeness and relevance. If you are tempted to buy this introduction to javafx, make sure you get the second edition; while I cannot speak for it's quality, be assured the first will only leave the novice frustrated.

Exactly What I Was Looking For to Quick Start JavaFX My Use

I was looking for a rapid introduction to JavaFX 2.x and JavaFX 2.0: Introduction by Example fit the bill perfectly. At the time of this writing, it is the only book on JavaFX 2.0 and it starts fast. I appreciated the fact that the introduction and history of JavaFX was rapidly covered (may want to access one of the numerous online blogs or articles on JavaFX 2.0 if more historical and overview information is desired) and that the focus moved very quickly to technical, code-based examples of how to use JavaFX 2.0.

The book is "recipe" or "cookbook" style and begins with easier introductory type recipes and moves onto more sophisticated recipes. It was only a matter of minutes to get my first JavaFX application running when using this book. I'm in a hurry when trying out a new language and this book satisfied that need. The books includes some NetBeans-specific examples, but no IDE is mentioned in most recipes and even those using NetBeans provide generated code so that NetBeans is not required. Each recipe presents a problem, presents one or more solutions to that problem, and then provides brief text description of features newly covered in the book by those solutions.

JavaFX 2.0: Introduction by Example is a relatively quick read with four chapters, fewer than 200 pages of highly technical content, plenty of code samples, and plenty of screen snapshots. The book is not intended as a comprehensive reference, but focuses on what its title suggests: an introduction to JavaFX 2 via working code examples. Some important topics in JavaFX 2 such as charting, FXML, GroovyFX, and ScalaFX are not covered in this book, but it provided me with a good enough introduction and familiarity with the language to be able to quickly learn about those via the JavaFX API documentation and other online resources. If you want to get into JavaFX immediately and with as little ceremony as possible, this book is a great place to start. If you prefer more pages of historical and overview details and wider coverage, you might prefer waiting for Pro JavaFX 2 Platform (be sure to get the edition with "2" in the title!) to be available (which I also intend to purchase).

Easily the best ongoing series available in my honest opinion. This series (Graphic Novels) is consistently throwing jabs at your heart and mind. You will NOT regret purchasing this, just make sure you start from Volume 1. There is honestly not a bad volume in the series and the story and pace never slows gets boring or repeats itself. It also will not let go of your heart or mind. Many times you will find yourself thinking to yourself, asking..."What would I do?"

If you or a friend consider yourselves to be even the slightest bit of a "fan" of either the AMC TV series "The Walking Dead" or "Fear The Walking Dead" you will not want to miss reading this ongoing series. It is a very easy read, yet not "dumb'ed down" if you will, in the least. I can't put it down. Be aware though, just like the TV series, this is NOT for young readers.
Robert Kirkman...What a plot, what a story...pure genius!

I'm addicted to all of these. They are brilliantly written and digitized. You really can't go wrong with the way Amazon gets the digital copy to you and the quality of the digital product is impeccable.
As for the actual document is almost exactly if not better than the real thing. The only reason I can see to buy the physical copy would be to keep on your bookshelf.

After postdoctoral studies at Oxford University and visiting professorships at several European universities, he returned to Concordia University as a faculty member and dean of graduate studies. In 2012 he was honored at the annual Wolfram Technology Conference for his work on "A New Kind of Learning" with a Wolfram Innovator Award. He is currently professor and Provost Fellow at Concordia University.

This is my essential book for actuarial interviews. Since ...

This is my essential book for actuarial interviews. Since I have not worked as an actuary for an insurance company before, the book would guide you through the difference types of actuaries, different daily work style, etc. I would say that the 2 editions are fairly similar. The 2nd edition has some updates since there was a major syllabus change in 2007.

Stages of Meditation is a commentary by the Dalai Lama on a rare text by ninth-century Indian Buddhist scholar Kamalashila, written in Tibet to correct some Chinese misinterpretations of Buddhism that were influential at the time. Kamalashila's short work is not widely known today, but according to the Dalai Lama, it is a most important text, and worthy of study by those new to Buddhism, because "on the basis of this knowledge you will be able to understand other treatises without great difficulty. This text can be like a key that opens the door to all other major Buddhist scriptures." Throughout the book, the Dalai Lama emphasizes the importance of logical analysis of scriptures, even if they are in the Buddha's own words; some teachings, he stresses, "should not be taken literally, but need interpretation." And this is what he does in this clear and readable commentary, originally given in 1989 and now translated and published for the first time. Its 10 short chapters are on such familiar Buddhist themes as Training the Mind, Compassion, Identifying the Nature of Suffering, and The Practice of Calm Abiding. A Primer to Understand the Spectrum of American Conservatism

Full disclosure is that Hawley and I entered graduate school in the same year, and he discussed the ideas of this book ahead of its publication. He has always shown intellectual aptitude with great rigor in his research.

In "Right-Wing Critics of American Conservatism," Hawley covers his bases with great depth in this eye-opening narrative. Regardless of an individual's personal political ideology, this is a must-read for anyone that wants to understand the full spectrum of the right-wing movement in America. The alternative movements in the American right seems, for better or for worse, poised to remain a vocal force moving forward. Learning their origin and ideology is thus imperative. Recognizing this, Hawley manages to keep this book digestible for the general public despite coming from an academic perspective.

One of the best books on conservative movement

This is one of the best books on the American conservative movement. I am a professor of political science, with a general interest in the
movement, but it is far from my speciality, and I learned a great deal from this book. I consider it a must-read for understanding how the
movement formed, how it purged its more-controversial Right-wing members, and how these purges are now coming back to threaten the
movement’s future through Donald Trump and his supporters. For anyone who wants to understand this process — whether you are on the Right,
Left, or somewhere in between — Dr. Hawley’s book is incredibly timely. More importantly, it is incredibly accessible and erudite, demonstrating a command of conservative thought that is stunning in both its breadth and depth.

Hawley’s analysis can be divided into three broad categories of Right-wing critics: localists, libertarians, and racialists. All of these groups have become disenchanted with the Republican Party’s adoption of interventionist, corporatist, internationalist agendas. Hawley explains, mostly in historical terms, how at one point many members of these groups belonged to the mainstream Right, but they have been systematically purged from the conservative movement, beginning with William F. Buckley’s construction of the movement in the 1950s, mostly to make the movement more palatable to the Left.

One general criticism I have of the book is that Dr. Hawley fails to consider whether and how these diverse critics coalesce together. The curious reader will complete the book wondering whether Hawley believes that Right-wing localists, libertarians, and racialists will be able to form a coalition, in the way that pro-lifers, free-traders, and neo-conservatives merged in the 1980s to form the coalition that we now know as the conservative movement. Hawley does not entertain this inquiry, which is quite disappointing, given that this is an issue of significant interest for Right-wing politics moving forward.

Hawley does hint, however, that the Right-wing critics profiled in his book could form a coalition around their common disenchantment with
the federal government’s expansive use of power, particularly its social engineering through the control of state and local education as
well as private business practices. While localists might focus more on the encompassing power exercised by global corporations,
libertarians on the intrusive power of law, and racialists on changing social and cultural dynamics due to demographic factors, all three
Right-wing causes share a contempt for how the federal government has expanded its authority over the last 50 years — in a way that the
Republican Party has only timidly resisted, and at times even encouraged — to make America a more consumer-oriented and less
cohesive state.

That relates to a more particular criticism: Hawley seems to attribute responsibility for the Republican Party’s purges and capitulations to
the conservative movement itself, but I wonder whether his agency attribution is misplaced here. The movement has faced enormous
cultural pressures, as academia and the entertainment industry have been captured entirely by Left-wing interests. Many empirical
studies, of which Hawley must be aware, have found that academic institutions and Hollywood systematically discriminate, in both form
and effect, against Right-leaning causes and values. It is therefore no wonder that the conservative movement has moved from opposing
compulsory de-segregation to favoring it, from opposing open immigration to favoring it, and if history is a guide, opposing same-sex marriage to favoring it in the near future.

At one point in the book (I can’t recall the page), Hawley even suggests that conservatives are so poorly represented in academia because they are insufficiently interested in intellectual life. This gets the relationship entirely wrong. Conservative ideas have not been able to flourish in universities and the media because, as study after study has demonstrated, Right-wing ideas and thinkers are systematically suppressed, censored, and expunged. To write about the purged critics of the conservative movement, without taking into account how the Left has contributed to these purges, is not entirely fair.

Overall, however, this is an overwhelming fair book — all the more impressive given that Dr. Hawley covers thinkers and values that very
few commentators treat even respectfully. I look forward to hearing what Dr. Hawley has to say on these issues, as he has proven to be a
perspicacious and objective observer of Right-wing politics and American politics in general. We could all do our part in getting this conversation started by reading and reflecting on Right-Wing Critics of American Conservatism.
