This new work by popular Turkish astrologer ner Dşer embodies an important new trend in astrology: the harmonizing of traditional and modern techniques for contemporary astrologers. In this first English edition, ner Dşer presents numerous powerful and ancient techniques for natal charts, focusing on the use of "time lords": planets and places which manage one's life, in order, for various amounts of time. The traditional techniques here include: Ptolemy's Ages of Man, triplicity periods, distributions or directions through the bounds, primary directions, profections, and firdaria. Contemporary techniques include secondary progressions, solar arcs, and transits. Of special importance is the use of several techniques together, such as transits to a solar return, or in conjunction with firdaria periods. With concluding chapters on eclipses and solar returns, Dşer provides valuable advice for using these techniques in rectification.

Oner Doser is a leading light in the Turkish astrological world, and here is his first book translated into English. It's a solid effort, with lots of clear, succinct explanations for a host of techniques, both modern and ancient. Well done!

NOT WHAT I HAVE EXPECTED
By Amazon Customer
The first chapter on the Ages of Man is the weakest of all the chapters relying
on traditional techniques. He takes too much space talking about the Moon
and Mercury period, periods in wich we will build our emotional and psychological traits
and that will prevail until we die(Ptolemy predates Freud here 15 centuries). The idea is
interesting, though he just writes a cook-book psychological description of the Moon and Mercury
in all signs. He doesnt try to go deep on the idea he conceives at the beginning of
the chapter when he talks about the hypothetical psychological developement. After this fail,
the book gets better.
He tells us in chapter 2 about how he became a famous astrologer after being a merchant.
He uses the "Directing by triplicities" technique to demonstrate why happened. That is perfectly well
explained and in great detail, though i think his planets are too much weak to make a strong
argument about that. He leaves the fixed stars behind (this is a an error as they are better
telling you if you ll be famous), and instead mentions the triplicity rulers of the sect light,
the Asc and Midheaven(a very critiziced technique for being not useful in practice), Then
follows some interesting aphorisms from ancient books about rules concerning eminence,
so again we see Oner focusing only on the testimonies that make a person eminent. He leaves
the triplicity rulers of the other houses and topics behind, wich in the end makes me think, and i experimented
enough with it, that directing with the triplicity rulers is a not so sexy technique even to expose.
However, this chapter is unique and useful for beginners, as he exposes in theory and practice the traditonal
rules of determination of a planet in the houses, the essential and accidental powers of the planets,
and the importance of aspects. This had to be done, because ancient books rely almost exclusevily on the natural
significations of the planets, wich is insuficient in practice. That means that Morin was the only
one of famous astrologers teaching astrology.
The Firdaria chapter is a coherent and meaty explanation of the most important Firdaria
periods for Princess Diana. This is the best chapter of the book, as he goes to a lot of
detail here.
Then follows a chapter talking about profections. This is a great exposition of the technique, and he
draws on all the authors that used this technique. He uses his own chart to talk about some important
accidents in his life like when he lost his grandparents in a home accident... and all the issues and problems
that lead him to close his Bazaar in Istambul. The exposition is useful, but then he
treats monthly profections superficially. In fact, he doesnt give us rules to interpret them, wich makes me
think that monthly profections doesnt work,at least predicting events. Indeed, he avoids talking about
daily profections as it s clear they are a total useless. However, annual profections are key because they
highlight planets in a year, wich can be useful to determine what will be the general influence of a year.
Next chapter is about transits. He treats transits in the "classical" modern way. Is this something new that
we didn t learn from other modern books? Just no. And for astrologers that want to learn about how to integrate
transits with the other ancient techniques mentioned in the book there is absolutely nothing. He is not armonizing
ancient and modern techniques, but talking about them separately. The chapter in itself is good if you want to
know about how to treat transits in a modern/psychological way, but he makes a cookbook delineation of the
planets aspecting other planets and planets transiting houses that is very superficial. One fourth of the book
is dedicated to this cook-book delineation, wich is disappointing.
The 6th chapter on Solar Arc Directions gives us a page with some rules of interpretation and only one example.
In the next chapter on Secondary Progressions he goes again with the cook book delineation of planets aspecting
each other and planets in houses.
The 8th chapter is one of the greatest dissapointments of the book, as he treats the periods of his own life given
by Distribution through the bounds in a superficial manner. In his chart Mars is in a terribly bad condition being
in the house of sickness, occidental and joined saturn, and he says that in this period he started to have problems
with his famaily, but also became succesful as a astrologer, so the latter seems doesn t fit well with the Distribution.
The chapter on primary directions is about how to calculate the Primary Directions, and hardly gives rules of interpretation
and 0 examples.
In the chapter of eclipses he gives us useful rules for interpretation and an interesting example
in wich he uses the prenatal eclipse, both solar and lunar, of his own chart. He treats eclipses in a modern-thinking
flavor, relating to them as a kind of karma, and then relates the saros cycle with the death of
his parents. Interesting.
The chapter on solar and lunar revolutions is meaty and very useful, but the take a look at 23rd book of Astrologia
Gallica and you will learn deeply how to interpret the revolutions.
The last chapter is called Rectification, and he treats this chapter in a superficial manner until he gives valuable
information on how to predict things like marriage or changes in the profession, though he gives 0 examples
in order to demonstrate what he is talking about. Too bad.
CONCLUSIONS
It s hard to rate this book:
It s dissapointing for various reasons. One of them is that the second half of the book
is already available in ten thousand of books previously written, though what is written is correct. He is gluing
modern and traditional aproaches in a book, but certainly not integrate them. The first 4 chapters are the best of
the book, as he goes in relative detail. If you are a complete beginner on predictive tecniques, maybe you ll find
the book good, but as an astrologer that wants to go deeper i would take note of Persian NAtivities III of Benjamin
Dykes, 23rd book of Astrologia Gallica by Morin and Anthony Louis's The Art of Forecasting using solar returns.
If i tell you: "Buy this book", it will be good for the hard task of Benjamin Dykes(publisher of this book and translator
of other books more interesting than this one). In other words, you ll be helping Benjamin financially, and he deserves
that for all his great efforts. The problem is that you are not gonna get the best of him. The solution is: Go and buy
his other books: "Introductions of Traditional Astrology", "Persian Nativities 3" or "The search of the heart". You ll
buy good books, you ll support a good man and you ll learn astrology. Cheers.
